Thought processes of Re socialization
From Civilian to Military Basic Training
Drill Sergeants come with a reputation of being the worst disciplinarians in the military. The item makes them very affective at their jobs. The first part of their job is equivalent to the first stage of the re socialization process. They will remove the identity of new recruits by first collecting their worldly possessions, clothing, shoes, jewelry, piercings and all other own personal affects. They place these items in a locked storage before the nine weeks of basic training are over. During this process recruits will will begin to undergo disciplinary changes, by standing in lines and formations, learning it is possible to be very structured and organized in a military way. A number of lines they will be standing in, will be a line to obtain their heads shaved completely for the men, and cut to shoulder length for girls. Other lines are for medical examinations, military ID issue too as the issuing of military uniforms and other equipment. Several military uniforms is without a doubt issued, all the same color, and type to each fresh new recruit. The only difference in this type re socialization, open for the military ranking system. A system that does distinguish the soldiers from loved ones according to rank and grade. This ranking system for new recruits will be towards the same for each recruit at the start of training. Truth that during training, certain recruits will be chosen for higher ranks in leadership positions reported on performance, knowledge and other positive traits as a soldier (www. todaysmilitary. com, 2010).
After a new soldiers are established in their new environment, then they could be ready for the second stage of the re socialization way, which is to build a new self and military credit rating. This
the desire to become military soldiers (www. todaysmilitary. com, 2010). As a result of basic training, drill Sergeants who are very experienced military troopers themselves, are better known as brown hats.

Step two is the opportunity that the authority should invent a new and better identity for the inmate. They will attempt this through therapy and counseling through rewards and punishments. To influence the removal of inappropriate behavior of one’s personality of an inmate, a strict environment with authority, monitoring and rules provides rewards to those who will conform to the authority, and punishment to men and women do not comply. Exposing them to certain teachings and instruction to be able change their ways of thinking is another form of expertise changing. The authority or staff who will attempt to change these individuals are trained and skilled in disciplinary tactics, or it could be they’ve undergone the same discipline and possibly have been assimilated themselves straight into the same system of control. After the two step process having to do with re socialization, there are steps within the process that will be helpful in rehabilitating, re adjusting or favoring the change of the type of inmates social identity and perspectives. This all begins again the real key governing body and institution.
The governing body, institution or environment must be set up in a manner that favors the change. For example, the common grounds, sleeping quarters and even the place where they eat their food has to be set up in a manner that supports this change. The color and types clothes they like, to the colors of the walls in the environment will be regulated. The change and control of the inmates will find force, free will or be persuaded. While the idea is to achieve sparking change by free will, the authority or staff can only attempt to change the way one has programed himself. Ultimately it is up to the inmate. Someone will accept or refuse the new programing, based on numerous factors. One is how well they can adapt to most of the new environment. The governing body or environment is the most important element in changing almost everything about an individual. This is because our environment in the form of the people around us, the places where we career, eat, sleep and socialize are the everyday influences that characterize who prohibited. In order for change to take place those things and people that influence us end up being taken away or changed in our environment and replaced by – those
things that will stimulate a changing perspective. Some buyers behavior and thinking
will need more than just a change associated with surroundings to create change in their patterns. They will need stricter enforcement of rules and sometimes force to successfully lead to change.
Identity and personality change could also take place courtesy of – force or deprivation. The US military has been known which can successfully use sleep deprivation in teaching combat tactics and devices (Machovec, Ellzy &; Hursh, 1989). Yet the US military is more for a utilitarian or normative organization, where members are paid or offer their services. As opposed to coercive organizations or typical total institutions for example prisons where inmates are there for punishment or treatment, and can be completely confined (Macionis 2008, p. 130). Yet military personnel pick up an identification number similar to prison inmates. Changing the personality of someone means changing a huge amount of the natural tendencies that have been embedded in that person for quit some time. Changing behavior from hostile and negative to something more corresponding, civilized or even militant will take strict guidance and therapy. If an individual is being changed from a civilian inside military, it really is necessary for that person to unlearn, and then learn certain behaviors and ways of thinking to carry out a job. Changing that individuals behavior and thinking is necessary that allows him or her to succeed at a certain mission, piece of work or position. The mission of the United States Military, when sending new recruits to special basic training posts located via country is to re socialize and introduce them to a new military daily activities.
The nine week military basic training is an example of the re socialization process in our country. The US Army, Deep blue, Air force and Marines can be considered total Institutions by themself, as well as the hundreds of military posts scattered via the country and abroad. Before the first stage of their re socialization recruits are introduced to strict discipline now that they step off the

importantly adhering to the rigid rules of military personal. New recruits will be rewarded for their performance as soldiers and adopting the rules. As well as going above and beyond the label of duty. But the ultimate reward for the new military civilian recruit should be graduating from basic training and being initiated into whats regarded military permanent party (www. todaysmilitary. com, 2010). The re socialization of civilians to a military identity through military basic training is seen as a very memorable life time social transition to a daily activities that gives you less freedom as a serviceman, but more benefits staying a civilian when your enlistment is up and you have honorably give up your country.
Step one is the removal of the all those clothing and personal items. Replacing them with shoes and garments that is normally identical in color and style, so everyone’s appearance is exactly, and no one can be distinguished by the clothes they can be wearing. And then shaving of the heads or regulating hairstyles will further help keep everyone undistinguished by social class. After controlling the physical appearances while using inmates, they are then given a number, which will be the sole thing that identifies them as an individual, and further stripping them along with former identity. Everyone of the inmates, external-physical characteristic and friendly agents that influenced their personality, such as sense of date, hair style, earrings and other traits, are taken away. Plus they’re given no agents of opportunity to re invent their several selves.
In our life time its very important for us as civilians learn how re socialization can happen to us. We can execute this by coming to a realization that we don’t have a lot of freedom as we think, and we are now living inside the majority of the characteristics of a total institution. According to Macionis (2008), we can take our social world for granted, but by using whats also known as ethnomethodology, we can try to make sense of our everyday surroundings (p. 103). We can try to make sense of the economic problems we have in conversation most of the time. But who really knows whats will happen in the not too distant future? Because of all the major economic decline that has taken place, our whole system could be shut down, causing a lso are socialization of society. Where everything, including all statistical data, just like for example social security numbers and credit cards can become void. All property could rewind into the possession of the government. And we would all needs to be re issued identification. Bureaucracy that is already taking place in our country is in this way the control that our government already has on our identities (Macionis ’08, p. 134). This is a radical scenario but the fact that everyone is in a recession on the brink of a depression is the best way to tell that we may be facing some big social changes and restrictions individuals country, possibly in our life time.
Re socialization is the attempt by any authority inside of a governing body to 1st, remove the identity and personality of men and women confined in that body, and 2nd, introduce that individual to a wonderful new prescribed identity by rewarding his good behavior and sticking it to his bad. Attempting to change the traits about a person that to generate them who they are is done for many reasons and takes hundreds step. Some reasons why people undergo re socialization are; in punishment, discipline and training. Other religious and economic reasons may utilize the institution itself. After being confined or assigned to an atmosphere called a total institution, being cut off from the balance of normal society, inmates are first stripped of their gift identity (Macionis 2008, p. 90). An identity that has taken some people years to discover and create for themselves.
Its important given our budget to know why re socialization can happen to us inside of country. Its

First in considering where we live into characteristics of re socialization within a governing body or foundation. Being issued a social security number at birth, and it being mandatory to have identification to carry out, and get just about anything, favors re socialization. The numbers on those ID cards ‘re a large part of our identity. We are required to have passports in order to really travel beyond most of our borders, basically restricting us to your given space in our institution. The idea of needing a passport in order to really leave the country has some characteristics of confinement. We can gain wealth then get money as a reward by doing work and not breaking the law. But if we don’t work, we aren’t issued money, if in case we break the law we are punished. This scenario favors the second section of the re socialization process. Our countries social structure not only makes characteristics of re socialization, but also of a coercive company. Our countries bureaucratic structure shows small signs of re socialization within its regulations, hierarchy of offices and the way it impersonally puts limits above anything personal (Macionis 2008, p. 134). These staggered characteristics of re socialization in this particular governing system show that we are under a blanket on control.

important to know for reasons of our own personal well being, and self identity. The more we find out about and
realize about society, the better we can learn to adapt to the system, and make it work for us. If some sort of changes occur, we’ll know how to personally handle those is altered and new rules. There are rules and guide line in which follow everyday that may lead us to an impression that enables us to presently live within a partially re socialized society.
There are rules that we’ve got to follow even in our everyday interactions. And we follow these rules like actors to be able create certain impressions, because we feel that we have inside. We follow similar rules in the way we carry yourself, in demeanor in dress, and more so in the method to we live our everyday lives. Our countries bureaucracy can be than the idealism of re socialization, in how efficient we are in the total institution; governing body or country.
